THE
DR. JOHN HARVEY KELLOGG DISCOVERY CTR.
Historic Adventist Village, Battle Creek, MI
|
PRESENTATION BOOKLET - (Front Cover)
|
The images on this page are only
a few pages out of the presentation booklet that I prepared for
the
Dr. Kellogg Discovery Center. This was designed in partnership
with Wild
Science .
The Center was used as a "bridge" between the community
and Historic Adventist Village. It contained a museum dedicated
tothe
accomplishments of Dr. Kellogg while he worked for the Famous
Battle Creek Sanitarium. He was used to introduce the public
to Adventists
and Ellen White, as well as to get them to visit the Historic
Village. Also used to educate Adventists on SDA history and as
a public PR tool. |

FLOOR PLAN |
The museum contained many of Dr. Kellogg's
clever medical inventions that he used at the Battle Creek Sanitarium.
It included a working mechanical gym, a vibro-therapy department,
a light therapy department, a theater, photo-ops, quiz panels, and many other
interactives. |
|
| |
| |
INTRO WALL |
This is the first thing the visitor
would see. A photo bio of Dr. Kellogg's life and an interactive
window into one of Dr. Kellogg's surgeries. This included a physical
challenge that
tested the visitor's hand to see if he's steady and accurate enough to be a surgeon.
Kellogg's surgical tools
were also on display. |
|
| |
| |
ELLEN WHITE & HEALTH REFORM |
This area explained Ellen White's
relationship to Dr. Kellogg, her role in health reform, her visions,
and her relationship to the Adventist Church in an interactive
way. |
|
| |
| |
DIET, EXERCISE & TEMPERANCE |
These walls included artifact displays,
ancient exercise sound recordings, and a mental, interactive
temperance test to be taken after comparing the typical 1860's health prescriptions
with Dr. Kellogg's radically different health prescriptions. |
|
| |
| |
SANITARIUM HISTORY & HYDROTHERAPY |
A photographic history of the Sani-tarium
and interactive displays on hydrotherapy. |
|
| |
| |
GYM WALL, WALL OF FAME, & DR.
KELLOGG'S WHITE SUIT |
The wall of fame contained photos
of famous visitors to the Sanitarium - each photo had a button
underneath. The visitor was to guess (by reading the clues) who
each famous
person was. The answers were given via message repeaters
when the buttons were pressed. |
|
| |
| |
MECHANICAL GYM RAILING |
This is just a depiction of the interactive
railing that housed all the mechanical health equipment like the
mechanical horse, camel, massage table, vibrator. |
|
| |
| |
VILLAGE MODEL |
This was to be an interactive model
of the future Historic Adventist Village attractions. Press a button
and it would tell of that particular Village structure. |
